Secure Plus Checking Account FAQs

Secure Plus Checking is only $10 a month.

There are no monthly fees for students age 25 and under, residents of Upshur and its surrounding counties, Allen ISD employees, and veterans and first responders. 


All you need to do is request a card when you open your account online and we'll mail it to you once your account is opened. Or, you can pick up a new or replacement debit card by visiting one of our branch locations or calling (214) 818-3231.


Just use your debit card to pay for items and services and you get an extended warranty or the extra insurance for up to a year.

You can set up overdraft protection6 from a savings account or line of credit, and we can transfer money into your account for a fee of only $5. If you have Secure Plus, it costs only $1. But if you don't have the funds in any account, you may still be able to sign up for Privilege Pay7 for $35 per transaction.

What is Overdraft Protection?
Overdraft Protection links your checking account to another account (such as savings or a line of credit) to cover transactions if your checking account balance is too low.
 
How does Overdraft Protection work?
If you don’t have enough money in your checking account, funds are automatically transferred from your linked account to cover the transaction.
 
Is there a fee for Overdraft Protection?
Yes, overdraft protection can have a fee of $1 or $5 depending on the account you have.
 
What accounts can I link for Overdraft Protection?
You can link another checking account, savings account, money market account, or a line of credit.
 
Will Overdraft Protection cover all transactions?
It can cover checks, automatic payments, and debit card transactions, depending on your setup and available funds.
 
How do I sign up for Overdraft Protection?
Visit a branch, call us, or log in to online banking to set it up. Below are the steps if you do this in your online banking portal:
  • Step 1: Log in to Online banking.
  • Step 2: Click on the account you want to opt in to overdraft protection
  • Step 3: Under the details, you will go down to settings
  • Step 4: Click on ‘Overdraft tolerance opt in/out’
  • Step 5: Select the account you want to opt into.
  • Step 6: Agree to the terms and conditions
 
Does Overdraft Protection cost money if I don’t use it?
No, you’ll only pay if a transfer is made to cover a shortage.
 
What is Privilege Pay?
Privilege Pay is an optional service that lets you overdraw your account up to $800, with a $35 fee for each transaction that overdraws the account.
 
How does Privilege Pay work?
If you don’t have enough money in your account, we may approve your transaction and overdraw your account up to your limit, instead of declining it.
 
What types of transactions does Privilege Pay cover?
It can cover checks, ACH payments, and recurring debit transactions. If you opt in, it can also cover everyday debit card purchases and ATM withdrawals.
 
Is there a fee for using Privilege Pay?
Yes. Each transaction that overdraws your account is charged a $35 fee.
 
Do I have to pay back the overdrawn amount?
Yes. You’ll need to bring your account back to a positive balance within the required time frame, usually within 50 days.
 
Can I opt out of Privilege Pay?
Yes. You can remove the service at any time by contacting us.
 
Will Privilege Pay always cover my transactions?
No. Approval is at our discretion and based on your account history and standing.
 
How do I sign up for Privilege Pay?

Opening an account requires a minimum deposit of $25. Otherwise, there are no minimum balance requirements.

There are a few ways to get your checking account number. You can log into Online Banking, click on your checking account, and above your recent transactions you will see your 13 digit checking account number above your Current Balance. This is the information you need to provide for making payments from your checking or getting a direct deposit.

You can also get your account number from the bottom of your checks.

Yes! With our Secure and Secure Plus checking accounts, you get free access to credit reports from all three major credit bureaus.

If you have a checking account with us there is no charge to cash a check. If you do not have a checking account we will charge 2% of the check amount. If you have any questions please contact us.

We are on 2 networks that offer free ATM services to our members. These are only for withdrawals. You can only deposit funds in an ATM at our branch locations.

Can a joint owner make changes or close the account without me?
Yes, a joint owner can make changes and close a checking/savings account without primary consent, but a joint owner cannot close a membership.

How can I add a new joint owner to my account?
We will need current identification for all owners and a  subsequent action form needs to be completed by all account owners.

Does the joint owner need to be present to be added?
Yes, a joint owner needs to be present. If you request documentation via phone, the joint owner will need to provide their signature to be added.

Is there a credit check when I add a joint owner?
Yes, a soft credit pull is done for all members applying for a membership.

Can I add a joint owner to any type of account?
A joint owner can be added to all accounts, except for IRA ac-counts. 

Will removing a joint owner affect my account history?
No, removing a joint owner will not affect any account history.
What is a beneficiary?
A beneficiary on an account is the person designated to receive the funds in the account in the event of the account holder’s death. It helps ensure the money goes directly to that person without going through probate.

Is it required to have a beneficiary on my account?
No, this is something that is optional.

How can I add a beneficiary to my account?
A subsequent action form needs to be completed and signed. We will need the beneficiary’s personal information like Name, DOB, Social Security Number (if possible), Address, Phone Number. Branch or Member Service representatives can assist with providing these forms.  An appointment can be scheduled for either of these options at https://www.cutx.org/schedule-an-appointment 

Can I add a minor as a beneficiary?
Yes.

Can I update a beneficiary’s information if something changes?
This is highly recommended.

Do I need to notify the beneficiary when I add them?
No, you’re not required to notify the beneficiary when you add them. However, it’s often a good idea to let them know, especially so they’re aware of your wishes and can be prepared if needed.

Will the beneficiary have access to view my account once added?
No, beneficiaries will not have any access to your account information, only in the event of the account holder passing. Supporting documentation will need to be provided before obtaining any information.

Can I open an account online or do I have to visit a branch ?

How do I close my account?
  • Your account can be closed by the two methods below:
    • Visit a branch or call in to speak with one of our Member Services representative. An appointment can be made for either option by visiting https://www.cutx.org/schedule-an-appointment
    • Provide a written request sent via regular mail to PO BOX 7000 Allen TX 75013 or email to help@cutx.org
    • The written request will need to include First and Last Name, Member Number, Request: Example: I would like to close my account, and have the remaining funds sent to (address). Wet Signature & Current Date (We don’t accept digital signatures), and an Up-dated Driver License/ID
What happens to my direct deposits or automatic payments?
Any direct deposits or automatic payments will be returned once the account is closed. Please ensure that you update your account information with the appropriate companies so they can process payments to the correct account. 

What if I have pending transactions when I close my account?
All transactions must be posted at the time of closing. We would have to wait until all transactions have posted to be able to complete the request.

Can I close a joint account if the other person is not present?

Yes, a primary account holder can close a membership at any time. 

What should I do if my account was closed due to inactivity or over-draft?
If your account was closed due to inactivity, if it was left in good standing (no negative balance) you can reapply for a new account at any time. If your account is closed due to negative balance, please contact our collections department at 214-257-2740 for further review and options.

5 Plateau Insurance Company of Crossville, TN will be the Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance underwriter. If you wish to name a beneficiary, a completed beneficiary form is required. If there is no designated beneficiary on file, benefits will be paid according to the Master Policy.


6 Electronic deposits are available up to 2 business days early depending on timing of receipt into our Automatic Clearing House (ACH) database. Member must be enrolled in direct deposit through their employer. Excludes International deposits.


7 An overdraft fee may be imposed for covering overdrafts created by check or electronic funds transfer, including debit card transactions and Automated Clearing House transactions. If sufficient funds are not available, then any such item presented may be returned to the payee due to non-sufficient funds and all applicable fees may be charged to your Account as set forth in the Truth-In-Savings Fee Schedule.


8 This is an optional service on eligible Checking Accounts for each membership. Eligibility is at the sole discretion of the Credit Union and is based on you managing your Checking Account in a responsible manner. This service allows us to pay, at our discretion, any withdrawal order item (whether by check, electronic funds transfer, including ATM and everyday (one-time) debit card transactions and Automated Clearing House (ACH) preauthorized transactions) if you do not have enough available funds to cover the item(s) in your Checking Account. However, if you would like to include overdrafts for ATM and everyday (one-time) debit card transactions, you are required to “opt-in” (in other words, you must provide us with your affirmative consent) to the overdraft service. If we pay overdraft items for you, we will charge your Account an overdraft fee for each overdraft, as set forth in the Truth-In-Savings Fee Schedule. With Overdraft Privilege Pay, we will generally pay your overdraft items up to a total of $800.00; however, whether your overdrafts are paid is discretionary and we reserve the right not to pay an overdraft on your Checking Account. For example, we typically do not pay overdrafts if your Account is not in good standing, or you are not making regular deposits, or you have too many overdrafts. Accounts must be brought to a positive account balance within 30 calendar days.
